Marjorie Nesman, age 89, passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday, July 12, 2019, at University Village, Tampa, Florida. She was born Marjorie Helen Pickett in Detroit Michigan on December 5th, 1929 to Opha and Roy. She grew up a shy child with two much older sisters, Dorothy and Mildred. They lived in a large brick house in the city and spent summers in small cottage on Wolverine Lake. In her later years, she would write stories about her life during these times.
Moving to later years, Marjorie obtained a Master’s Degree from Michigan State and eventually married Edgar Nesman. Together they spent the next several years as Methodist Missionaries in Cuba and Costa Rica. In the early 1970’s, the family settled in Temple Terrace, Florida. Until her retirement, Marjorie was a Student Advisor in the Education Department of the University of South Florida.
During her retirement years Marjorie did volunteer work as an Adult English teacher. for United Way, and for Meals on Wheels, Marjorie was a longtime member of Temple Terrace United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Among her many hobbies there was bicycle riding, bird watching, sewing, reading, knitting, weaving, writing poetry, writing short stories, putting puzzles together, and playing scrabble.
She is preceded in death by her husband Edgar and daughter Teresa, and her sister Dorothy Suchner. She is survived by her three sons Tomas (Bonnie), Daniel, and Richard (Sharon) and grandchildren Taylor, Melissa, Sam, Colleen, Abbey, Jordan, and her sister Mildred Scheele.
A memorial service will be held at Temple Terrace United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 20th, 2019, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Temple Terrace United Methodist Women or Meals on Wheels.
