Thomas K. Gilmore, (Tom), 64, of Land O Lakes, Florida, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at St. Joseph’s North in Lutz, Florida on September 23, 2019, as a result of a massive coronary.
Born in Mineola, Long Island in 1955, to Blakely and Marie Gilmore, he had two sisters and one brother: Marie, Ruth and Edward. Tom was married to his wife, Jean, on September 23, 1978 in Greely, Colorado, where both attended the University of Northern Colorado. Tom attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Marketing and went on to a long and successful career with publishing giant Matthew Bender, in legal sales. He was consistently at the top of his field, winning trips to various places of the world, such as Hawaii, Greece and the Bahamas, which he and his wife thoroughly enjoyed. This occupation allowed him a lot of free time with his daughters: Christena, Mary (Mike) and Katherine (John), who all loved him dearly.
Recently retired, he spent most of his time with his grandchildren: Arianna, Dionna, Sean, Amani and Tristan. He was the school bus driver, the baseball/football coach, the chief smoothie and snack maker and the light of all five of their lives. They were the joy of his retirement. He also spent that time building lasting relationships with the people and employees of his current community, Weymouth in Oakstead of Land O Lakes.
Tom loved swimming, working out and music. An avid Beatle’s fan, he could be found watching them on YouTube videos many nights. He also was a great fan of both the New York Giants, the Denver Broncos and the New York Yankees, but he also adopted the Bucs and the Rays as soon as he arrived in Florida. He always said, “You can’t live somewhere and not root for the home teams!”
Tom was a loving and supportive person, to his family, to his friends and to his community. He went out of his way to help people, whether he knew you or not. He was a kind person with a unique and crazy sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
Celebration of Life Service will take place Saturday at 10:00 am at North Pointe Church. 19862 Amanda Park Drive, Lutz, FL 34638.
