Mrs. Maureen Ann Beirne Gauzza, 75, of  Tampa passed away July 3, 2017. She was born in Yonkers, NY and moved to Central Florida in December 1981 from Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Maureen was a member of Saint Lawrence Catholic Church, Tampa; Friends of Upper Tampa Bay Library President 2005-2015, Tampa, FL; Girl Scout Troop Leader, Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Maureen was a beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Maureen's greatest joy in life was family, especially her six beautiful grandchildren. She lovingly made special memories with them every chance she got. From baking and making treats to playing games and cards, blowing bubbles and grandkid sleepovers, Maureen was the world's best Mom and Grandmother. Her husband of 51 years, Charlie, both of her daughters, Sharon and Christine, and her grandchildren, Justin, Jared, Christopher, Julia, Savannah and Alexandria, absolutely adored her to the moon and back. Another big milestone in Maureen's life was when she excitedly formed an Upper Tampa Bay (UTB) Friends of the Library group, which led to the beautiful community library being built in 2005. The UTB Regional Library has grown and flourished along with the Westchase community Maureen and Charlie called home for the past 20 years. Maureen loved libraries and thought it was wonderful to see adults and children of all ages using the UTB Regional Library. When they dedicated a room in Maureen's honor, The Maureen Gauzza Community Room, her daughter Sharon Potts said, “My sister and I grew up going to the library with my Mom. This is a very fitting tribute to her.”

An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,

And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Maureen was preceded by her beloved parents, Margaret and Augustine Beirne, and beloved brothers, Frank and John Beirne. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charlie Gauzza, Tampa, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Gus and Jill Beirne, Spring Hill, FL; sister-in-law, Rita Beirne, Summerville, SC; daughter, Sharon Potts, Tampa, FL; Justin, Jared and Julia Potts grandchildren in Tampa, FL; daughter & son-in-law, Christine and John R. Harvey,  Highland Village, TX; Christopher, Savannah and Alexandria Harvey grandchildren in Highland Village, TX.

Maureen was a wonderful friend, co-worker, and neighbor. We often joked that we were probably cousins from a few generations back in Ireland. We shared many of life's ups and downs, and even discovered that we were called Mimi by the grandchildren in our respective families. She was kind, down to earth, and loving, as well as funny! It was amazing to watch all that she accomplished after her so-called "retirement"! She was sustained by a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Rest in peace, sweet Maureen, until we meet again in the presence of our Lord and Savior.

Dear Charlie, Sharon and Christine, Maureen will be missed in our community by her ready, sweet smile. She was a beautiful lady that had great passion for her family, children and books. We will always grateful to her for the beautiful Upper Tampa Bay Library that would not have come so quickly in this community, except for Maureen’s foresight and labor.. We are blessed for having known her.
Our condolences to all of you who had a much closer relationship with her. May God bless and be with you.

Charlie and family, I was deeply saddened to learn of Maureen's passing. My sincere condolences to all of you. She had passion for public libraries surpassing most citizens of whom I ever met. She was tenacious but always patient with me as we worked the political system. Library users within her community will be indebted to her (and to you Charle who was always at her side) for years to come. I learned much as a director from meeting with and listening to her steadfast loyalty to libraries. She loved and spoke of her children and grandchildren often. I hope they will grow and realize just how much she gave, how quietly and professionally she served and how blessed we all were to have had her touch our lives.
