With profound sadness we announce the passing of Kathryn "Kivit" Mella, a loving spouse and dear friend to all those whose lives she touched. Kathryn passed away on January 28, 2019. She was 87 years old. She left us quickly and peacefully from heart failure, passing as she often stated - "We should be created like light bulbs, go, go, go and then instantly burn out at the end".

A Tampa Florida native, born in 1931, Kathryn had a full and interesting life. She had many passions and the courage and tenacity to follow them. She had many talents, including her degree in interior design, her dog grooming business, and her involvement in show dog competitions with her Afghans. Kathryn put her heart into everything she did, starting with her earlier years, where she lived on Madeira Beach, sailed her boat and was an early member of the St. Pete Salon. She liked to travel and planned many wonderful trips with her spouse, Mary, both abroad and in their RV. And, as all who knew her realize, she loved to dance. Dancing spanned Kathryn's life from her early years as an Arthur Murray dance instructor and later, to her 15 year passion of Argentine tango, earning her the nickname "Tango Mouse". She enjoyed sharing that passion with the many wonderful dancers in the Tango community.

Kathryn leaves behind Mary, her spouse and beloved of 35 years. She also leaves behind an extended family and many friends. She will be dearly missed at the family gatherings and the social events with friends. She was so loved.

My Journey’s Just Begun (Ellen Brenneman)

Don't think of me as gone away

My journey's just begun

Life holds so many facets

This earth is but one

Just think of me as resting

From the sorrows and the tears

In a place of warmth and comfort

Where there are no days and years

Think of how I must be wishing

That you could know today

How nothing but your sadness

Can really go away

And think of me as living

In the hearts of those I touched

For nothing loved is ever lost

And I know I was loved so much

I remember the two of you from our monthly meetings to discuss death and dying some years back. Sounds like Kivit had the kind of death she hoped for and I am glad. She lived a life so filled with joy and love and I am happy our paths crossed. My heart goes out to Monya in her grief. Love, Diana

Kivit was a special woman who seemed to live life to the fullest. She was lucky to have such a wonderful partner all these years.

A person that departs from this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds, through us, they live on.

So sorry for your loss Mary. Kivit was an integral part of our family and will be deeply missed as friend and family.

Kivit was a force in her living and in her loving. It was truly my good fortune to share growing up and growing older with Kivit in my life. She added so much love and laughter. She was certainly loved by many and will be well remembered and truly missed.

I was so sad to hear of Kathie's sudden passing. I knew her for 11 years through the Tango community. She was a top level dancer, both leader and follower, and a great mentor and friend. Always cheerful and fun, smiling and laughing. That's how I will remember her. My condolences to Mary. Kathie always called her 'mi esposa' (my wife in Spanish) and the 'love of her life'. Thank you for sharing her with us.

I want to send my condolences to the family and friends. Having to deal with the loss of a love one is something that we never want to experience. But, knowing that we can receive comfort from God ( 2 Corinthians 1:3,4) we can rest assure that he will guide us through these grievous times.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Kathryn will be missed. What has helped me in times like these is Revelation 21:4 which says, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” I hope this will comfort you as it has me. If you need anyone to talk to, feel free to reach out to me.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one to death is one of the hardest things you ever have to face no matter what age. I get comfort from the Bible. John 5:28 tells us there will be a resurrection. Won't it be wonderful to see our dead loved ones again? Please view the attached video to see what that could look like.

Dear Mary,
My deepest condolences to you and your family. May Kathie dance her way through eternity with the same joy she spread around her in life and on the dance floor. May the memories of your happiest moments together comfort you through this hardest of times and continue to fill the void she leaves behind.
