Barbara G. Finkbeiner, 83, passed away on October 7, 2021, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was a loving homemaker and talented entrepreneur, starting two successful businesses with friends: Designs Four, making church vestments and appointments, and a catering business.
Barbara, a native Floridian, grew up mostly in Lutz, graduating from Hillsborough High school in 1955. She went on to attend the University of Tampa and eventually graduated from the University of Central Florida.
Barbara and her first husband of 40 years, David Hernandez, raised two boys in the Maitland area of Orlando. She helped start and lead the Women’s Club at UCF where David was a professor. She was very active at St. Richard’s Episcopal Church in Winter Park, teaching Sunday School for many years and serving on the Altar Guild and Vestry.
After the death of her first husband, Barbara reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Edward Finkbeiner, and returned to her hometown of Lutz to marry him in 2004. Barbara affiliated with her former church home, St. Clement’s Episcopal Church in Tampa, where she assisted in organizing teas and fundraisers, and served on the Newcomer’s Committee and Vestry.
Above all else, Barbara cherished her family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband Dr. David E. Hernandez, son Daniel P. Hernandez, stepdaughter Susan Lunsford, step grandson Kevin Finkbeiner, brother Carroll “Bud” Garrison, and her second husband Edward Finkbeiner.
Barbara is survived by her son and daughter in law Lawrence and Gloria Hernandez (Longwood) and granddaughters Alicia Hernandez (Longwood), Eileen (Aaron) Edwards and great grandsons Jameson and Weston Edwards (Palm Bay); brother and sister in law William and Pamela Garrison (Land O’Lakes); nieces Casey (Jeffrey) Parker (Lutz) and Kelly (Blane) Betz (Jupiter) and their families; sister in law Barbara Garrison (Loganville, GA) and nephew Brad McCanna (Sautee
Nacoochee, GA); step children Sharon Pearson (Spring Hill), Brad Finkbeiner (Lutz), Dale (Eleanor) Finkbeiner (Land O’Lakes) and step grandson, Austin Lunsford (Huntsville, TX).
A memorial service will be held at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church on November 27th at noon. In lieu of flowers the family requests gifts to St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, 706 W 113th Ave., Tampa, FL 33612.
