Douglas Dean Hernandez, Sr. was a fighter of the best kind, he fought for the sake of those who loved him, not for his own well-being but for that of his family.
Douglas Dean Sr. was born January 31, 1956 to Arcadio (Arkie) and Sylvia Hernandez.
7 years later he was introduced to his baby sister Dorette (dori) and for 10 years they fought and loved each other like most siblings. At ten years old she lost a part of her brother but gained a respect for his fighting spirit.
At age 17 he was diagnosed with kidney failure. In that year he underwent 4 major surgeries. He was never to have a normal life his doctors told him.
At the age of 23 he met his lifelong partner and wife of 41 years Linette. They conceived a child a miracle Doug thought. They named him Douglas Dean Jr.
By the age of 27 Douglas had graduated college and with the love of his Wife and child and the burden of his illnesses he pushed forward studied even left to New Orleans to complete the courses needed for his future career as a licensed funeral director. He served the Tampa Bay community for 30 years in that capacity, knowing he would help comfort and take care of people when they were suffering the most.
The following year came another miracle a second child, they named him Ryan Arcadio. The family life was fulfilled but his physical condition was deteriorating. He had been undergoing Dialysis treatments for three year, he needed a new kidney, in stepped the woman who had given him life and was prepared to do it again his mother Sylvia. In 1989 She and Doug underwent the gift giving surgery that would provide him a chance at a normal life. Doctors had told them to expect about 13 years of kidney function, his mother’s kidney provided him double that time.
For a couple of decades all seemed ok, until he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C which was curable but the damage to his liver was irreparable. In 2013 Arkie passed and then in 2016 Ryan died. He still had his wife and son Douglas as well as his Mother who needed him. In 2020 Douglas Jr. was struck by a vehicle and was in a coma. He is recovering but slowly.
Douglas Sr is an example of what Love can overcome, We know he loved his wife to the end and she in return loved him and cared for him, He lived and fought for life as long as he could in hopes of not breaking his mother’s heart, He mourned the loss of him boys everyday and to that end We Pray.
May You Rest In Peace and may God give you a new body and fill you with happiness and Joy, May you laugh and love in your reunion with your father and son for ever and ever….
