Obituary

Jose Benson, 66, of Tampa, Florida passed away on February 6, 2021, at 4:14 AM due to the consequences of COVID-19 at St. Joseph Hospital. Born in El Tigre, Venezuela. He grew up in Battleground, Washington and Sitka, Alaska. He was the husband of Betzaida Benson, they shared 36 years of marriage together. In November 1980 was the first time that he met Betzaida in her hometown La Cruz De La Paloma, Maturin, Venezuela. They were friends for 3 years and formed a relationship after. They married and began their life together on October 20, 1984. In Venezuela, both Betzaida and Jose were very active in Getsemany Church for 10 years. For the first 5 years in Venezuela Jose served as a missionary for the church and engage in state prison ministries. They moved together to the states on October 29, 1989, where they continue serving god. He was the son of Carmen and Ralph Benson. He received his associates May 16, 1976, at Northwest Nazareth College and later continued his education receiving his bachelor’s in Management and Business at National-Louis University on June 10, 1995. Throughout his years of servicing the church, he had made many connections in his life. He was an active member of Wesley Memorial Church, where was apart of the Church’s Men’s Group, Choir, Live Stream, Media Team, and Leadership Team. From his youth he enjoyed playing different types of sports such as wrestling, basketball and tennis. He also enjoyed gaining wisdom by reading various books. Jose Benson, will not only be remembered for his genuine kindness, but he will also be remembered for his incredible wisdom and humility. He is survived by his wife, Betzaida Benson, son, Brent Benson and daughter, Brenda Benson. He was also survived by his siblings and their families. His sister Vilma Perales and her husband Freddy Nunez, their daughter Carolina along with Carolina’s family, Moises Rizales her husband and their son Mathias Rizales. Julie Hames and her husband Randall Hames along with their children’s families. His niece Rosanne McGough and her husband Brad McGough along with their children Briston, Brayson and Braddock. His niece Randi Hames. His younger brother Ivan Benson and his wife Nilda Benson along with their daughter Ivana and husband, Luis Tur. His younger brother Roy-Parker Benson. His sister, Iris Uchytil and her husband Rod along with their children Carine, Shandra and Tony. And his niece Angela Benson-Slaton and her husband Jason Slaton, along with their children, Garrett, Gabriel, Gigi and Gianna. He was predeceased by Father, Ralph Benson, mother Carmen Benson and brother, Hector Benson.

A visitation will be held Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 11 am - 1:00 pm at the chapel of MacDonald Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park, everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery, no funeral procession.
