Obituary

Patrick (Pat) Steven Costello, 68, of Tampa, Florida passed away suddenly on February 23rd, 2022.

Pat was a dedicated son, brother, and husband. He was a creative and introspective thinker who expressed himself thoughtfully and intentionally. Pat was talented in so many ways: a musician, artist and technologically gifted. He was an entrepreneur with insightful and original ideas.

Born in Naples, Italy on June 6 th , 1953, Pat was the first of six children in a US Navy family. Growing up, Pat lived in many cities on the US’s east coast, including Washington, DC Newport, RI and Virginia Beach, VA. After Pat’s father retired from the Navy, the family moved to Winter Haven, Florida where he graduated from Winter Haven High School. From there, he attended the University of Florida in Gainesville earning a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Pat credited his education in helping him to see the big picture and preparing him for a fulfilling career – first as a building designer and later as a designer of satellite-based advertising communication systems.  During his career, Pat served in the VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) Program, an anti-poverty program that supports nonprofit organizations and public agencies in their mission to lift communities out of poverty. In 2004, Pat joined the University of South Florida administration as IT manager for the Athletic Department and served faithfully there for the rest of his career.

In 1996, Pat met the love of his life, Evelyn Roig Rodriguez. They married in 1997 and were a couple united by a very deep love and respect for one another. Pat was a devoted and loving husband who later showed amazing courage and commitment while caring for Evelyn who became ill several years into their marriage. Always by her side, Pat loved and cared for Evelyn until his untimely death. Evelyn followed him a week later, passing away on March 2 nd , 2022.

Pat loved to travel and was very proud of his French heritage. He was a great conversationalist and loved to share many insights and stories from his childhood, travels, family, and his philosophies of life. Pat loved music and enjoyed expressing his creativity. He was thoughtful in so many ways. If there was a need, Pat was always there to help or lend a listening ear and offer advice.

Pat is predeceased by his parents, Daniel J. Costello and Chantal M. Costello. He is survived by his sisters, Carole Costello of Gainesville, FL, Nadine Wilkes of Ft Myers, FL and Dominique Blume of Winter Haven, FL; his brothers, Eric Costello of Belleville, IL and Gerald Costello of Colorado Springs, CO; eighteen nieces and nephews and nine grand nieces and nephews.
