Roy Freed King was born in Kenton, Tennessee, on November 20,1932. After graduating from Oak Ridge High School, he received an associates degree from Florida College in Temple Terrace. He continued his education at David Libscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee where he met his wife Marilyn Marie Chastain. They married on July 17, 1953 and spent their first years living in Chattanooga, Tennessee while Roy worked as a contractor salesman for Hammontree Brothers Lumber Company. They moved to Temple Terrace, Florida in 1955 so Roy could manage the woodworking shop at Florida College. Later, when Florida College sold the woodworking shop and it became Temple Terrace Industries, Roy continued to manage the business for 19 years. In 1974 he became the manager at Weekley Lumber in Tampa. In 1986 the company dissolved and Roy worked with a contractor building homes. He later returned to Temple Terrace Industries and worked until retirement. After retirement Roy enjoyed building and buying model airplanes with the Tampa Radio Control Aircraft Club. Roy and Marilyn were blessed with three daughters: Anita K. Long; M. Gayle Hill; and Nan K. Wilson. They were blessed with seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Roy Freed King passed from this life on March 11, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Price B. and Carroll M. King, his brother Ralph King, and sister Doris Jean Hammontree. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; his daughters Anita, Gayle and Nan; all his grandchildren; great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, cousins; and all of his friends from Temple Terrace Church of Christ where he had been a member for 65 years.
