Mrs. Sophie A. Karas, 87, of Tampa passed away February 5, 2021 at Concordia Village of Tampa. Sophie was the loving wife to the late Anthony "Tony" Karas for 63 years. She was preceded in death by her son Johnny, siblings, Sister Angie Eliopoulos, brother: Nicholas Patronis, Pete(Panagiotis) Petronis, and Rev. Fr .Peter Lambert. She was born in Flint, Michigan and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Tampa, Fla with her parents in the late '40's, and met her husband in 1951 and married in
February of 1952 at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Tarpon Springs. Members of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church in Tampa and along
with her parents were one of the first families to break ground in the '50's where the church now stands. She enjoyed singing in the choir and did so until the late '60's, very early 70's. Sophie is survived by her loving family, daughter, Pauline Helen Spencer (Wayne); son, Constantine Nicholas; grandchildren, Tanya Schupp (Richard), Antoinette Bush (Mathew),Christopher Karas, and Elishia Meadows (Alexander); great-grandchildren, Hailey (19), Ricky (17), Jacen (17), Michael (13), Mikey (12), Vasilis (8) and Sophia (8).
The Divine Liturgy (funeral Mass) is at 10 am Wednesday, visitation is between 11:20 am -11:50 am and funeral service is at 12:00 noon at St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 2418 W. Swann Ave, Tampa 33609. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park, at 1:30 pm for anyone who wishes to attend; no funeral procession.
