Paul Stephen Williams “Steve” of Brandon, FL passed away on March 29, 2021. He was born in Cambridge, MA on July 2, 1949. He was 71 years old. He moved to FL at the age of 6 and has lived in the Tampa Bay area since. He attended Brandon High School and graduated from Whitehaven High School in Memphis, TN where he lived for a short time. Steve entered the Army in 1969 and served in Germany and Vietnam. In Vietnam he received The Purple Heart decoration for wounds received in combat. He was also awarded the Air Medal decorations three times and the Army Commendation Medal three times, National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal for service in Berlin Germany, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He attained rank of SGT. E5 and he left the Army in 1973.
He then attended Hillsborough Community College and graduated with an A.A. degree in Criminal Justice. He worked for a time as a deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office and as a Federal Protective Force Officer with the Department of Energy as a Special Response Team Leader, Firearms Instructor, and Defensive Tactics Instructor. He was later employed by Scientific Research Corp. (SRC) as a Security Supervisor, Facilities Manager, and Shipping & Receiving clerk. He retired from SRC to become a full-time caregiver to his wife Penny.
He was preceded in death by his wife Penny Williams, oldest brother Ken Travis, and two younger sisters Sandra Durrie and Judy Riggins. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer VanDerKamp, brothers Doug Williams, Michael Williams, and Wayne Williams.
Memorial Services will be held at Countryside Baptist Church, 13422 Sydney Rd., Dover, FL 33527 on Saturday May 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
There will be a time of fellowship following the service..
